The LEGO monorail is officially back with today’s update to Pick a Brick, and here’s how much the essentials will cost, depending on how big you want to go.
Head to Pick a Brick today and you’ll find LEGO Education’s monorail system parts available for everyone. It’s the most promising sign of a fully-fledged return to the Classic Space monorail of days gone by so far.
Even if these elements don’t appear outside of LEGO Education and Pick a Brick, you can pick up white and grey track and transparent chassis parts to make the LEGO monorail you’ve been dreaming of.
Here’s a look at how much each of the LEGO monorail pieces cost on Pick a Brick, available now in the US and Europe. They are not yet listed in the US, but the region will hopefully follow suit soon.

The straight sections of track are four studs wide and 16 long. The curved section is 18 studs long and wide. Instructions for the LEGO Education monorail system are also available, giving you an idea of how the elements go together.
To make a small loop of track with four curves and two straight elements, you’d need £14.22 / €16.30. You’d then need at least one chassis, a larger gear, and at least one four-stud-long cross axle, or a five-stud-long variant if you want to motorise the build. You can use the new 6598041 and an elastic band to turn the gear inside the chassis with a motor with a longer axle. An unmotorised chassis would cost £2.47 / €2.82.
The combined cost of three unmotorised chassis and the smaller length of track would come to £16.69 / €19.12. That’s not including the cost of additional pieces to make supports or the monorail cars themselves, but it’s not as bank-breaking as you might expect.
To match the size of the track in an older monorail model, such as 6990 FUTURON Monorail Transport System, but without the ramps, you would need 20 straight sections and four curves. The track alone for such an endeavour would cost £51.84 / €59.32. Copies of that secondhand go for nearly £500 used, though, so we’re off to a good start.
The new LEGO monorail parts only come in specific colours for now, though those colours are usable for space and city displays. You can pick them on Pick a Brick starting today, while stock lasts. The other new pieces in today’s update come from models such as 21367 Tintin Moon Rocket.
